This is the second time I have bought two of these artificial trees. My previous purchase was in 2017. I bought them again this past week because the previous ones weren't in good shape and I was unable to come up with anything else. Overall, the look of the tree is fine, but the base needs some reworking. In 2017, the base (a plastic pot) was a little deeper and wider. The 2022 version is even smaller - 5 1/2 inches high and 4 1/2 inches wide at the bottom. Both the 2017 and 2022 versions were filled about 1/3 of the way with cement to provide some stability. However, the remainder of the pot remains empty and the perfect place for rain and/or snow to sit. Over time, the water in the pot causes the copper pipe that runs up the middle of the pot and tree to rust. In 2020, one of the trees toppled over because the pipe broke off - the section that rusted and broke was located in the pot. In 2021, the second tree had the same problem. In both instances, I came up with a temporary solution to secure the tree to the pot by using a metal pipe to run between the piece remaining in the pot and the end of the pipe in the tree. The trees were a little wobbly but worked. This year after making repeated repairs to the foliage (pieces would break off because they became brittle or a strand would separate from the wire frame), I gave up and decided to buy two new trees. The description for these artificial trees indicates they are for indoor and outdoor use and no restrictions are put on the outdoor use. My trees are located on either side of my front door on the top step - out in the open with no cover. I do live in upstate NY so we do have snow in the winter - although rain accumulation in the pot would do the same thing as the snow. I have a contractor doing work at my house now and the cheapest "solution" he could come up with was to drill holes in the pot just above the level of the concrete to, hopefully, allow the water to drain from the pot. I contacted the company, Nearly Natural and their solution was to bring the trees inside when there are hurricanes, tornados and snowstorms! The first picture shows the spiral cedar trees in a larger pot I use - the tree in its original pot is inside the larger pot and will be secured by bricks and small stones. The second picture shows you what the base of the tree looks like and the holes we have drilled in it. The third is a picture of the tree in its orig. pot for scale. Regardless of where the tree is placed, you do need another container to put the tree in - for looks and stability.
