Let's face it, these mats don't always work. Some animals seem to magically avoid the wires and the shock. This mat works for my cat. She knows what it is and stays away from it.This mat replaces a different style of mat. The wire in that mat started coming loose and became a tripping hazard. I prefer this mat for a number of reasons. First off, the previous mat seemed to turn itself on at random times after I had turned it off. That meant that the 9v battery drained relatively quickly. This mat has never done that. Second, the warning sound of this mat is less irritating than the other style. It makes a noise which is sufficient to warn you off. (I shocked myself a few times to make sure it worked and that it wasn't too uncomfortable.) Third, it seems better quality. Finally, this one rolls up nicely for storage.As another reviewer mentioned, the wires are spaced too far apart on this mat and I agree. However, the spacing is about the same as on my previous mat. I wish some manufacturer would get this right and space them closely so they were a bit more reliable.Need to keep your pets away from furniture or something else? This Cobito Pet shock mat is an effective deterrent. Pets know, or quickly learn, that this mat is not to be stepped on or crossed. The shock delivered by this Cobito mat is a lot less shocking than my older mat of another brand, but because my pets knew the older mat, they stay away from this one.Conveniently rolls up to store away when not in use.I Have been usoing tis type oi device to help prevent indoor cats from wandering out side an open door by placing the pad on the inside threshold. I'm my experience a shock is expected to be mildly uncomfortable and is combine with an audible tone which helps to train the cat to avoid the mat . with the new purchase and with new batteries, the shock is very mild, and did not bother a barefoot 14 year old child at its highest setting. I feel that thus is too weak to be an effective deterrant , I would prefer a higher range in the out put shock power. and an audio dolmen adjustment so that can also be adjusted for the environment. also there is not a low battery indicator, the system simply turns off when the batteries go lower without warning. I dont know what the cut-off voltage is, its not listed in guides or boxI have two cats that will not stop jumping on my kitchen countertops. I purchased two of these as my final resort to stopping them as well as taping tin foil all the way around the counter. It worked at first because the cats weren't expecting the shock, but after that they would just jump onto the spots it didn't cover. They weren't afraid of the mats like other pets were in these reviews, they just knew not to step on it. The batteries also don't last that long even on low. They still technically work, but the shock is very weak. I have no idea what my next resort is.Worked great to keep dogs from getting on couch. Did not have the same effectiveness when I placed it on the floor in front of the stairs. I have we hoping it would work like an invisible dog gate but the dogs walked on it without hesitation. I stepped on it while carrying laundry and also did not realize it was on. If I was rating for that application I would have to give 2 stars but that’s not the intended primary use so as a deterrent to dogs wanting to get on the couch I give 4 stars only losing the 5th star because it wasn’t able To be used effectively in other areas.I loved this it first and I bought another one. Sadly, after two months both of them stopped working and I returned themBought this to test other brands and so far is decent. Stops the bigger pups but small one seems to have figured out the hop around when used on floor versus seating. Does great on furniture. Not so great on blocking furry pals from certain areas you may not want them on.We have a lab who likes to go go dumpster diving so we bought this to put this in front to the trash can. It worked. The shock is very mild, very similar to static electricity. The mat is thin, sheer and my only complaint is that it seems to be a magnet for pet hair.
